Bring one thing
ID with your name and address
No photo needed. A passport alone won't work.
Who can vote
You can vote in Hawkesbury if, on October 26, 2026, you are a Canadian citizen and at least 18, and you either live in Hawkesbury or you (or your spouse) own or rent property here.
Own or rent here but live somewhere else? You can vote here too, if you own or rent the property yourself. A property held by your business or by a trust does not count.
What to bring
One piece of ID that shows your name and your address. No photo needed. For example:
an Ontario driver's licence
a lease, a rental agreement or a mortgage statement
a hydro, water, gas, phone or cable TV bill
a bank or credit card statement
a pay stub, T4 or pay receipt from your employer
A Canadian passport alone won't work: the address in it is one you wrote yourself.
Bring the original. A copy counts only if it is a certified or notarial copy.
Can I vote if… Yes.
…I rent?
Yes. Your lease even counts as ID, as long as it shows your name and address.
…I just turned 18?
Yes. Being 18 on October 26 is enough.
…I study out of town?
Yes. If you live in one town to go to school and your home is in another, you can vote in both.
…I have no voter letter?
Yes. You don't need the letter the Town mails out. Bring ID.
…I'm not on the voters' list?
Yes. Get added on the spot: fill in a form at the voting place and show ID with your name and address.
…I moved?
Yes. Fill in a form at the voting place and show ID with your new address.
…my ID has no address?
Yes. On the list? Sign a declaration of identity at the voting place. Not on the list? The owner or tenant of your home vouches for you: they take an oath and show their own ID.
Yes. Bring a friend or an interpreter (they take an oath first), or ask the election staff. There is also an accessible vote tabulator, with audio, paddle and sip-and-puff controls.
…I work on October 26?
Yes. If your hours would not leave you three hours in a row to vote, your employer must give you enough time off, with no cut in pay. Your employer picks the time, as far as possible.
At the voting place
Inside by 8 p.m.? You still vote.
Your ballot stays inside. If you leave the voting place with your ballot, you can no longer vote.
No photos of your ballot. The law forbids a photo or video of your marked ballot, and showing it to anyone, except the person helping you vote.
School support stays as it is. You cannot change your school support (the kind of school board you vote for) when you go to vote on voting day. The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) keeps that record.
Can't get there? Name a proxy
A proxy is someone you name to vote for you. They must be able to vote in Hawkesbury too.
Fill in two copies of the province's Form 3, Appointment for Voting Proxy, and sign each one.
Give both copies to your proxy. They take them in person to the Clerk's office, sign in front of the Clerk, and get one certified copy back. They can go during office hours and, on the advance voting days (October 22, 23 and 24), from noon to 5 p.m.
Your proxy brings the certified copy to the voting place, takes an oath and votes for you.
A proxy can vote for one person outside their family, or for family members: a parent, grandparent, child, grandchild, brother, sister or spouse. Ask the Clerk's office for the last day to get a form certified.
Retirement homes
Election staff come to these homes so their residents can vote there: Place Mont-Roc and the Prescott-Russell Residence on Tuesday, October 20, and McGill Manor (261 and 342 McGill St.) on Wednesday, October 21. The Clerk confirms the times with each home.
